Casino Free Philadelphia: Injunction
endangers referendum

OUR VOTE IS NOT A LEGAL
FOOTBALL
We wanted you to hear from it first: The Supreme
Court just took a major step in knocking the referendum off the ballot.
Friday late-afternoon The Supreme Court put a
preliminary injunction on the referendum. That keeps the referendum from being
on the ballot until further notice.
It's an outrage. Our vote is not a legal
football to be kicked around by judges. It is a right, nothing something we
should have ever had to fight for. So we have every right to be angry at this
decision! It's against that which is deepest in a democratic system: voting and
the right for the people to have their say.
This is round one of a multiple-round fight. The implementation of the
preliminary injunction is a little unclear since the ballots are already
printed. Stickers should not be put to cover up the question on the physical
ballots, because there still remains a chance the injunction will be lifted. So
hope remains.
Yet our outrage needs to be heard. Money and
undue influence should not trump the interests of the public in Philadelphia and
Pennsylvania.
We have two immediate actions:
1) Send a letter to the Gaming
Oversight Commission to tell them this situation is unacceptable. We
should not be worried about whether our right to vote is going to be upheld.
2) Join us for a "Our Vote is Not a Legal
Football" rally. Join us Monday, 12noon at City Hall [West-side,
Dilworth Plaza]. We will take a visit to our visiting Supreme Court
Judges, too.
Let others know, by passing this message on
across the City and State. The bottomline:
This is an outrage; and this is the moment to show what we are made of. Our
movement will only use this fire to grow.
Warmly, -
Daniel Hunter

Record of Iraq War Lies to Air
April 25 on PBS By David

Bill Moyers has put together an amazing
90-minute video documenting
the lies that the Bush administration told to
sell the Iraq war to the
American public, with a special focus on how the
media led the charge.
I've watched an advance copy and read a transcript,
and the most
important thing I can say about it is: Watch PBS from 9:00 to
10:30 PM on
Wednesday, April 25.
What comes out of watching this show is a
powerful realization
that no investigation is needed by Congress, just as no
hidden
information was needed for the media to get the story right in the
first
place. The claims that the White House made were not honest mistakes.
But
neither were they deceptions. They were transparent and laughably absurd
falsehoods. And they were high crimes and misdemeanors.
Moyers's wonderful
movie is marred by a single line - the next to the
last sentence - in which
he says, "The number of Iraqis killed, over
35,000 last year alone, is hard
to pin down." A far more accurate figure
could have been found very
easily.

Hello
Friend,
Are you, like myself
concerned about the path to wholesale war this government is taking? There
is still an opportunity to be optimistic about our future. Dennis Kucinich

Iraq. He has a 100% voting record against funding the war and has a plan
to bring our troops home and stabilize Iraq.
Here is the link to Dennis Kucinich's
website. Even though we are most impressed with him as the true ANTI-WAR
candidate, on this site you will find out more about Dennis and other issues
that are important to him and the American People.
